We Tigers

"We Tigers" Animal Collective illustration - Jen Quinn

Illustration inspired by the phenomenal Animal Collective song “We Tigers” and the urban legend of a captive mother tiger in a California zoo who, upon losing her cubs in premature birth, began to decline in health out of despair. She was given a litter of piglets disguised with tiger stripes to care for. Although normally pigs are a prey animal for tigers, the mother tiger accepted the piglets as her own offspring and regained her health. The story may not be totally factual – some reports state that the story is fabricated and that the tiger and pigs were actually from a Thai circus exhibit – but the photos are still pretty aww-inducing!
